2008 SMX Draft Results

Post  SMX Commish on Tue Sep 02, 2008 12:29 am

The 2008 inaugural SMX draft was held on Sunday, August 31st at 4:00PM.

10 of the 12 owners (or their representatives) were present for the draft. Marlon was out to dinner with the wife (whipped!!!). Lindsay was M.I.A. as usual and therefore missed out on most of her beloved Cowboys but can take comfort in the fact that she landed Rudi.

Kristen has reportedly dispatched a hitman on Appleby for stealing three consecutive picks right before her pick came up. bat

The draft went 18 rounds and took a total of 2 hours to complete. The results are listed below.

Well, since nobody wants to comment, I'll start things off with a few awards...

REACH OF THE DRAFT

This year's reach award goes to...

THE L.A. VIPERS (Ben Roethlisberger-17th overall)

While Big Ben should be no bust, I don't think we'll see last year's statline from him again anytime soon (you didn't actually think that I'd give away my actual player rankings...did you? whistle ). Injuries to Parker and lack of depth at RB forced the Steelers to go to the air often last season and therefore inflated Roethlisberger's numbers. That won't be the case this year. The Steelers used their 1st round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft to select Rashard Mendenhall, considered by some to be the most talented RB in this year's draft. While Mendenhall may not be the starter this year, he will help to keep FWP fresh and give Pittsburgh a solid 1-2 punch that will enable them to continue to be the "run first" team they've always been.

Even if Ben puts up #'s similar to last year...17th overall...really?

STEAL OF THE DRAFT

There were some big steals in this year's draft...S-Jax 7th overall...Chris Perry 112th...Anthony Gonzalez 111th but this year's steal of the draft award goes to...

THE BENTON BULLDOGS (Marshawn Lynch-20th overall)

While I can't give the reach award to an autopick, I can give the steal award to one. How in the world did we all let Lynch, a consensus 1st rounder, fall to the end of the 2nd round! doh

My only theory is that everybody was so focused on getting their keepers at each position that Lynch fell through the cracks. I was sitting there stunned at the prospect of having Peterson and Lynch on my team. Alas, the damn autopick ripped him out from under me at the last second.

DEAD ON ARRIVAL

The D.O.A. Award goes to...

THE MUSTANGS

A combination of Brady man-love and Packer homerism left the Mustangs a little lacking. While I was impressed with the bold move of taking a QB with the 1st overall pick, it really seemed to take a toll on Sean's draft later on. Grant has got "BUST" written all over him, McFadden is overrated and Jennings has the talent but no QB. Unfortunately for the rest of us, Sean has a knack for finding waiver wire gems and turning subpar teams into championship contenders (in other words he's a lucky S.O.B. ).

BEST OVERALL DRAFT

This year's Best Overall Draft award goes to...ME thankyou ...

...no I can't do that (even though I outdrafted all you suckers checkit )...the award goes to...

THE GRIDIRON GAELICS

I honestly can't find too many holes on this team. Even the positions that are a little weak have good depth. A solid team from top to bottom. (Plus, Kristen would kill me if I didn't give her an award! anxious )

In all honesty I was really shocked at how well everybody did. I was a little worried about having so many rookie owners but this looks like it will be a very competetive league. Great job and good luck this season! applause applause applause applause applause
